Tourist Attractions and Sights in Bodrum – What’s Worth Visiting?
Bodrum is located by the Aegean Sea and has gone by three names throughout its history. Originally called Halicarnassus, it became known for the Mausoleum built in 353 B.C. by Queen Artemisia in memory of her husband, King Mausolus. The monumental tomb, called the Mausoleum, gave its name to similar structures worldwide and was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today, you can see parts of it in the British Museum in London. In 1402, the Knights of St. John from Rhodes conquered the coastal area and built the Castle of St. Peter, renaming the city Petronium, from which the modern name "Bodrum" is derived. Today, the castle houses the world’s only Museum of Underwater Archaeology, showcasing artifacts from ancient shipwrecks.

Bodrum Festivals
Bodrum is also known for its festivals. In May, it hosts a bicycle enthusiasts' gathering, while June features an International Film Festival at the castle. In August, we recommend the International Ballet Festival, Tango Festival, and in December, the Bodrum Jazz Days.

With its white, two-story houses, Bodrum has a Greek feel, where Greek and Turkish cultures blend seamlessly. In the heart of Bodrum, you’ll find a port with luxury yachts, smaller fishing and tour ports around the peninsula, as well as an international terminal for ferries to Kos, Rhodes, and Symi.
