The story of Dreamgirls is of three female R&B singers, Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson, who formed the "The Dreamettes". The musical is set in the gaudy 60s in Detroit, Michigan. Drama and romance emerge as the group rises to the top of the music charts. Behind the scenes, Deena becomes romantically involved with the group’s manager and is promoted as the lead singer of the group.
